Mundy, born in 1945, was raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, and graduated with a degree in Fine Art from Ball State University.  He then worked on a Masters of Fine Art at Long Beach State in California.  He always demonstrated a propensity for drawing and athletics, becoming the official illustrator for Bobby Knight, head basketball coach at Indiana University.
