Giuseppe Dangelico, also known as the artist “Pino” was born on the Meditarranean island of Bari where he grew up. Born on the cusp of the war in Europe, his childhood memories are those of women left behind to keep the home fires burning, including his beautiful mother and sisters. Bathed in the Adriatic light of Bari, these figures would later infuse the romantic canvases that speak so softly, and yet envelop vibrant colors with various states of emotion.
When Pino immigrated to the United States he established himself as a successful artist. He had been trained in Italy at the Art Institute of Bari, and later at Milan’s Academy of Brera. He was also commissioned by many popular book publishers for their covers; and to date has illustrated over 3,000 books.
Pino passed away in 2010 but his paintings with their warm and exciting colors and the subtle, yet simple approach to his subject are much sought after.
